There is currently no parent, mother or father, who has not thought about the effects of modern media in the development of the child. On the television and the Internet, as the DVD and mobile phones, children today are exposed to a variety of stimuli that are difficult to control and are most often terra incognita for parents. A guide book for the safe passage of our children from sympligades of modern technology would be more than welcome. One such book, with easily understandable language in the layperson, unassuming and meaningful is that of Mrs Royal Pappas, psychologist specializing in educating parents (and scientifically is chairman of the Panhellenic responsible Schools Parents Association). So it is not surprising clarity with which the author communicates serious questions about the effects of modern media: yes, the power of advertising is enormous in small children's soul and consumer behavior occurs too early. Yes, the TV monitor reduces long linguistic and cognitive development of children, increases aggression and antisocial behavior and makes them passive spectators of life. Yes, creative thinking and suspended criticism's ability to walk when children sit on the couch watching television instead of doing those walk. Yes, a relationship of dependency created by computer games and violent behavior begins to normalize.
The real strength of the book but the main Pappas does not lie in the clarity with which described the impact of modern development in children. The book also offers advice and clear instructions on how to handle the thorny issues. Why can be recognized and known that the prohibition (of the audience for example) rather brings the opposite effect, but it is not always obvious that we achieve what we have without the ban. Through examples dialogues Mrs Pappas shows us the way, but before us and of our responsibilities: why parent without consistent and consciously this (although all undoubtedly many other obligations), nothing of what he says is not feasible.
